Virginia Beach Guide And Information
Considering
a beach vacation at Virginia Beach, Virginia?
You'll be glad to know that when you arrive, you'll
be greeted by the clean beach sand, cool ocean breezes,
and a consistently rolling surf. Add to this the
moderate climate, a shoreline that's been newly widened,
an oceanfront boardwalk, state parks, wildlife habitats,
open-air cafes, golf courses that are superbly manicured,
historic landmarks and impressive landmarks, and you'll
see why many people return to Virginia Beach year after
year.
While nearly everyone wants to spend
some time swimming or splashing in the ocean, there's
a vast array of other attractions in the area as well.
There are, for instance, sites which interpret the area's
early history as a sea-faring community, a world-renowned
aquarium, the Oceanfront Boardwalk, the Cape Henry Lighthouses,
an old Coast Guard station, the Marine Science Museum,
among many others.
Virginia Beach has also earned a reputation
for itself for offering several conservation-awareness
activities. There are, for instance, dolphin-observing
boat trips and sea kayaking. Further, about 18,000
acres of parkland and wildlife refuges help keep visitors
aware of their need to preserve nature's beauty.
While not part of Virginia Beach, per
se, less than an hour's drive away, visitors can check
out popular attractions such as Busch Gardens, Colonial
Williamsbug and, for the water lovers, Water Country
USA.
A number of special outdoor events and
festivals keep things interesting in Virginia Beach,
depending on the time of year when you visit.
For example, summer visitors can enjoy the various oceanfront
stages, all of which offer free musical acts each night
after the sun sets. For those coming later in
the summer, there is a Labor Day "American Music
Festival" sponsored by Verizon, and held in cooperation
with the Rock n' Roll Half Marathon.
This music festival is considered the East Coast's biggest
single-day music event during the year. Each year,
it features an outstanding lineup of famous recording
acts, playing America's favorite sounds. These
performances are held at the Oceanfront Parks on 5th,
175h, 24th and 29th Streets.
A few other things to check
out on your Virginia Beach holiday:
• Black Bay Wildlife Refuge. This is 8,000 acres
bordering the Atlantic Ocean featuring maritime forests,
large sand dunes, fresh water marshes, an ocean beach,
ponds, and more.
• Munden Point is a secluded park found in the
city's deep southern end. It has a boardwalk normally
packed with entertainment, concerts, outdoor cafes,
and of course, visitors.
• Ocean Breeze Waterpark, Motor World, and Shipwreck
Golf are three amusement parks located within Virginia
Beach, and provide opportunities for miniature golf,
water slides, go-karts, pools, paintball, kiddie rides,
and more.
• Naval Aviation Monument features statuary and
reliefs of many of the heroes of Naval aviation.
There is so much variety at Virginia
Beach, that it's difficult to describe in a sentence
exactly what the personality of the area is. So
let's just say that if you're looking for a beach experience
where it's almost impossible to get bored, due to the
number of different kinds of things to do, Virginia
Beach is worth considering.
