Myrtle Beach Guide And Information

Running along South Carolina's South Atlantic Coast, Myrtle Beach is one of the best known beaches, and indeed tourist destinations, kin the United States.  Attracting more than 14 million visitors each year, people come not only from other southern states and other countries, but just as importantly, residents of the northern U.S. often come to spend the winter.  One interesting fact:  Myrtle Beach is the world's Putt-Putt Capital, with more courses every square mile than anywhere else.

Because Myrtle Beach is a beach town, the tourist season peaks during the summer, especially about early July.  It slowly declines after that.

Myrtle Beach has been heavily developed, but that has also led to the development of new roads, making it easier to get around the area.

Most people come to Myrtle Beach by road.  If you intend to drive, however, you should be sure to plan your trip in advance.  Those going a short distance (just a few miles) should take a main road running adjacent to the beach. But those coming from several miles away should instead take an interstate road which branches further out.  This are typically clear of much traffic, making the trip easier and faster.

Some things to see in Myrtle Beach include:

• The beach, naturally.  Be forewarned, though, it can get crowded during peak season.  A good strategy is to visit it at sunrise.  Not only are there not many people there then, but seeing a shoreline sunrise is a spectacle to behold.

• Myrtle Beach International Airport. This is one of the nation's premiere airports, and is an attraction in itself.

• Broadway at the Beach.  For those who love shopping or entertainment, this is a good destination.  It features a large area of nightclubs, bars, stores and shops, an aquarium, and even a movie theatre.  Be sure to check out the Butterfly Pavilion, a destination alone worth the trip to this area.

• Barefoot Landing is another great area with more than a hundred shops, steakhouses, eateries and even a brewery.  Barefoot Landing plays home to the House of Blues and Alabama Theatre, both of which offer live entertainment.

Some things to do in Myrtle Beach include:
• Watch a race at the Myrtle Beach Speedway. It hosts something almost every week, such as NASCAR races or other car events.

• Play miniature golf.  Especially try out Mount Atlanticus, which is located behind the Pavilion, and features the best miniature golf experience you're likely to find anywhere.

• Watch a baseball game at Coastal Federal Field.  The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, a Triple A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, play there.  Coastal Federal Field is found at the intersection of Robert Grissom Pkwy. and 21st Ave.

And finally, some good places to eat include:
• Ala Mario's pizza, found at 2286 Hwy. 505 E.
• The Filling Station, located at 1913 10th Ave.
• Athens Pizza, found at 5419 Dick Pond Road
• Burro Loco, located at Hwy. 17 Bypass / 10th Ave. North
• Fiesta Mexicana, found at 419 70th Avenue
• SeaBlue Tapas, located at 503 Highway 17 North
